The U.S. Diplomacy Center is planning an interactive museum and visitors center to be located at the 21st Street and Virginia Avenue NW entrance to the Department of State headquarters in Washington, DC. There the U.S. Diplomacy Center will welcome visitors from at home and abroad and tell the story of American diplomacy through engaging exhibitions, compelling artifacts and lively education programs. Visitors will go behind the scenes of American diplomacy to discover how it has shaped our nation and how it is responding to the profound challenges of the 21st Century. Artifacts and icons, from an early American passport to the high tech tools used by today's diplomats show how America's engagement with the world began with our nation's founding and how it continues today. Personal stories will remind visitors that diplomacy is carried out by real people in difficult circumstances and often dangerous places. Interactive exhibits will put visitors in the shoes of diplomats, giving them a chance to try out their skills and experience the real thing while open classrooms will welcome students and teachers as they participate in live simulations to learn how American diplomats and their international counterparts are responding to today's global challenges. The U.S. Diplomacy Center will tell the story of American diplomacy and highlight the work of the Department of State. Through exciting exhibits and education programs it will engage, inform and inspire the next generation of leaders to become involved.
The U.S. Diplomacy Center was featured on the cover of State Magazine in the May 2009 issue (pp. 14-15). Read all about the work and mission of the USDC.
