The Department of State honors Patricia “Patti” Morton as its next Hero of U.S. Diplomacy. Hosted by the Foreign Service Institute and the National Museum of American Diplomacy, this virtual event features opening remarks by Foreign Service Institute Director Ambassador Daniel B. Smith and Diplomatic Security Training Deputy Assistant Secretary Wendy Bashnan. National Museum of American Diplomacy Associate Curator Kathryn Speckart shares stories, artifacts, and video highlights from Patti’s career, and Diplomatic Security Deputy Assistant Director Julie Cabus speaks about working as a supervisory special agent today.
During her distinguished 29-year career, Patti Morton made historic contributions to the Department’s approach in emergency preparedness during the Vietnam War, launched the Department’s first personal defense security trainings, and was one of the early advocates for diversity recruitment and hiring.
