Myca’s opposition political party has called for a large rally in the capital city tomorrow.

The Myca National Police will be there for crowd control. It’s important for Myca’s president to understand that, if she fails to control the police response, it would make it harder to deliver aid. The United States might even rethink its trade relationship with Myca.

You also don’t want anyone getting hurt. You want to encourage pro-democracy groups like Students United for Mycan Democracy, who are only trying to advance their civil rights.

You also think allied countries could help persuade the president to reschedule elections.

U.S. Embassy to Myca
Office of the Ambassador

These are all good options.

It’s essential to communicate to the president that the police must not overreact. The American people won’t like to see police hurt peaceful protesters, and they may complain about trading with a government that does that.

Advancing democracy around the world is a U.S. goal. Having U.S. embassy officials meet with the students and other pro-democracy groups would send a strong signal of support for civil rights. However, the president might see this as interference in her elections.

Allied countries haven’t spoken publicly about the elections, but they all agree with the U.S. position. Their public support might convince the president to change her mind.

What will you do?
