Bringing Americans Home: Diplomats on the Front Lines of COVID-19
Our nation’s diplomats served as first responders as the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the globe. This global response included the repatriation of thousands of people.
In this edition of Diplomacy Classroom, NMAD hosted the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) for a discussion on the work and experiences of foreign service officers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
NMAD Director Mary Kane and AFSA President Ambassador Eric Rubin opened the panel and introduced the special guest moderator, Ambassador Jimmy Kolker. Ambassador Kolker was joined by Alan Eaton, a Consular Officer who was part of the Wuhan Evacuation Team, and Kathryn Stevens, a USAID COVID-19 Task Force member. The three individuals led a discussion on their experiences as diplomats during global health crises.
Diplomacy Classroom is a virtual event series presented by the National Museum of American Diplomacy where we explore diplomacy through a historical event, person, or contemporary global issue. Events are recorded and available for teachers to use as resources in their classrooms.
