Diplomacy Classroom: World AIDS Day

In commemoration of World AIDS Day, NMAD hosted a Diplomacy Classroom discussion with Neeta Bhandari, Acting Deputy Director, Private Sector Engagement Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator at the U.S. Department of State.

Neeta gave an overview of the historical and ongoing battle against HIV/AIDS and then highlighted U.S. efforts to address this epidemic. Specifically, Neeta discussed the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), detailing its history, evolution, and current work to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Additionally, Neeta explained PEPFAR’s broader role within global health diplomacy and highlighted its partnerships with international public and private organizations to respond to this crisis.

Diplomacy Classroom is a virtual event series presented by the National Museum of American Diplomacy where we explore diplomacy through a historical event, person, or contemporary global issue. Events are recorded and available for teachers to use as resources in their classrooms.
