Today, the legacy of this peace lives on in Dayton, Ohio. The Dayton Literary Peace Prize is awarded annually to authors whose work recognizes the power of the written word to promote peace. In 2011, after Richard Holbrooke’s sudden death, the City of Dayton renamed their Salem Avenue Bridge as the Ambassador Richard C. Holbrooke Memorial Bridge. A new plaza near the Holbrooke Memorial Bridge was dedicated to Holbrooke in 2015.
Since the Accords were signed, the City of Dayton and cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina developed a relationship through the Sister Cities International Program. Exchanges between the cities include youth groups, police training, scholars, and the visits of delegations, and have served to maintain close ties between their citizens.
